Statter Harbor Project Earns 2016 ASCE Award
PND engineers Mark Sams, P.E., Dick Somerville, P.E. (VP); and Per' Rasmussen, P.E. accept our award at ASCE's annual banquet on February 25, 2016.
This award accompanies a 2013 Honorary Outstanding Project of the Year award from the ASCE for the Statter Harbor Moorage Improvements project.
PND is pleased to announce that the Don D. Statter Harbor Launch Ramp Facility in Juneau, Alaska was named the 2016 Project of the Year by the ASCE: Juneau Branch.
The City and Bureau of Juneau entered into a cooperative agreement with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG), Division of Sport Fish (Sport Fish) to fund the replacement of the existing Statter Harbor boat launch. The original boat launch ramp and boarding float was constructed in 1986 by the State of Alaska. The use of the existing facility was limited during low tides because the concrete ramp surface did not extend to sufficient water depth and parking capacity was inadequate to meet demand. The low tide limitations caused further congestion and backups in the parking area during the low tidal stages. The deteriorated ramp was recently replaced with a new two-lane, all tide boat launch ramp including a new ADA compliant boarding float. The new ramp has increased the boat launch capacity and in combination with the new parking area has decreased wait times and congestion and improves safety.
Improvements also include reconfigured highway access, uplands parking expansion for 100 vehicles with trailers, 85 vehicle only stalls, make ready and tie down lanes and improved launch maneuver and traffic flow patterns.
