PND’s structural engineers have designed recreational facilities such as community gymnasiums, ice rinks, and swimming pools. Typically, these buildings have large, open spaces with long-span roof trusses. These represent unique challenges with the moderate to high snow loads and high seismic and wind forces that are anticipated on Alaskan projects. Ice rinks especially present unique challenges with monolithic slab pours with no contraction joints and tight tolerances for the finished floor elevation.
