PND’s bridge engineering experience ranges from the innovative STRAND BRIDGE™ system for long-span light pedestrian loads to North Slope haul roads subjected to 3,000-ton module moves. PND’s northern region experience has emphasized the importance of dealing with seismic loading, cold weather fracture requirements, non-typical loading such as river ice breakup, and a host of other critical issues.
PND has designed highway, pedestrian, railroad, and pipeline bridges using a variety of materials, including timber, concrete, steel, fiber-reinforced plastic, and steel strand, all used in combination or individually as dictated by the best design practices.
PND follows standard design practices on the majority of designs; however, innovation leading to improved function, safety, and cost reduction often requires a judicious application of fundamental engineering to assure the best solution is obtained.
