Cold region ports present many challenges not found in warmer climes. PND’s experience with design of these facilities has enabled us to provide cost-effective, yet sound facilities, from temperate southeast Alaska to the primarily frozen North Slope of Alaska on the Beaufort Sea. Many cold region ports are subject to severe floating ice loads, while other sites must accommodate large tides and subsequent buildup of ice on structures.
